Purpose of consultancy:
The purpose of the consultancy is to provide services of written translation of technical, programming and IEC materials from English to Tok Pisin.
The consultant will work with the UNFPA PNG team under the specific guidance of the Communications Specialist, and in consultation with Humanitarian/SRH/GBV Specialists as relevant.

The consultant will lead written translation of key technical, programming and communication materials from English into Tok Pisin and other languages as required. This will support improved humanitarian response GBV and SRH interventions. The translator will be expected to accurately translate key concepts and messages related to GBV and SRH to ensure their clear understanding by service providers and communities.
Duration and working schedule:
The total duration of the contract will be for 22 working days, during the period commencing from May to June 2021. Prior to commencement, the translator will be expected to present a suggested timeline for the translation of key texts as identified by UNFPA. Upon review and feedback from UNFPA, the final timeline and expected delivery dates will be finalised. In some cases, it may be required for the consultant to work full time for the period of a week or more.
Payment terms
Payments will be based on the provision of deliverables on the basis of the daily rate and number of days attributed to that deliverable.

Delivery dates and how work will be delivered (e.g. electronic, hard copy etc.):
The translator will be hired for a total 22 days between May to June 2021. Delivery dates for each translated text will be set prior to commencement through discussion between consultant and UNFPA, and subject to programming priorities.
It is anticipated that the consultant will support the translation of key IEC materials as well as technical materials including but not limited to the IASC GBV Pocket Book and PNG GBV Sub Cluster technical guidance notes. UNFPA reserves the right to change or add to translated text subject to translators’ anticipated timeline and programming priorities. All copies will be submitted electronically. The translator will be expected to submit drafts for review and finalise through incorporation of feedback.
Monitoring and progress control, including reporting requirements, periodicity format and deadline:
The consultant will report directly to the Communication Specialist (GBV/SRHR) by way of weekly meetings to ensure deliverables to be provided on time as outlined in the preceding section. Programme staff (eg. Programme Specialist) may support supervision and guidance to ensure adherence to relevant standards.
Supervisory arrangements:
The consultant will work under the overall guidance of the Communications Specialist.

Required expertise, qualifications and competencies, including language requirements:
Education:
University degree or diploma in linguistics, translator or related field.
Knowledge and Experience:
Experience translating written text from English to Tok Pisin. Experiencing translating technical health documents and guidelines is valued.
Familiarity with concepts related to gender based violence and sexual and reproductive health and rights is valued.

Languages:
Fluency in oral and written English and Tok Pisin is essential.
Other Desirable Skills:
Prior experience work on GBV and/or SRHR.

The consultant is expected to have their own computer. No office space will be provided. UNFPA will provide phone credit as required. .
