The National Statistical Office and United Nations Population Fund have released the Population Modelled Estimate 2021, a count of Papua New Guinea’s population by age and sex at the National, District, and LLG levels.
According to the estimate, calculated by World Pop, the population was 11,781,559 as of 2021.
The estimate was calculated using innovative modelling techniques, the first time this type of technology has been used in the Pacific. The use of this new technology in population estimation is an example to the region of how new innovations in satellite imagery and statistical modelling can inform national planning.
