Terms of Reference

Background

Under the supervision of the Communications Specialist and the overall supervision of the UNFPA Representative, the Social Media assistant will be required to:

  • Manage the social media content across our digital platforms
  • Plan content for particular days/events/activities with the aim of growing our digital reach and influence.
  • Document stories on camera/video ensuring release forms are signed
  • Caption each photograph with specific details such as the location taken, name of the subject, activity, quote and any other relevant information;
  • Provide short human-interest stories (200-300 words) for each set of images;
  • Provide UNFPA with a strong visual story for social media purposes.
  • Support the communications and programmes teams to plan and implement activities and events – with a special focus on youth.

Skills, experience and qualifications required

  • Minimum 2 years of professional work experience.
  • Work experience in digital content and managing social media platforms.
  • Professional photography skills.
  • Strong interpersonal communication skills
  • Ownership or possession of professional photography equipment, including a range of professional lenses, filters, tripod and lights is an advantage;
  • In-depth understanding of the local context is an advantage;
  • Availability and willingness to travel at short notice to different parts of the country is essential.

Assignment duration

The assignment will cover 2 months through December 31st 2021 with possibility of extension.

Expected outputs

The expected outputs will be:

  • Analysis of UNFPA’s social media content across our digital platforms along with recommendations to schedule certain content/messages.
  • Proposed set of stories and images related to the UNFPA mandate and current priorities.
  • Support provided to the programme teams, especially the Young Ambassador’s youth activities with respect to planning for the events, supporting with proper documentation and reporting.
  • Digital content developed for UNFPA website.
  • Photography subject release forms signed by parents or legal guardians of children under the age of 18 must be delivered to UNFPA together with the images.

Reporting

The successful candidate will be supervised by the Communications Specialist and work closely with UNFPA’s Young Ambassador and UNFPA Representative.

Intellectual property

All information and images pertaining to this project will belong to UNFPA who shall have exclusive rights over their use. Both UNFPA and the photographer will adhere to international copyright law. The photographer can use the photos for his or her portfolio.

Contractual arrangements and supervision

The Social Media assistant will be hired under UNFPA’s terms of contract for the purpose of delivering the above outputs and will be supervised by the Communications Specialist.

UNFPA shall provide necessary support to the social media assistant including:

  • Access to office computer and available equipment
  • Travel within the country to UNFPA project sites.

Remuneration

Payment shall be made following receipt of monthly reports detailing the activities and work-related outputs based on the job description above.
